Game Reports
Scott's Report
Hi Daryl, Well an awesome display of firepower at the Barn on Blanshard
tonight. The Rocks picked up where they left off in game 3 ( 7 - 0
3rd period) , and kept it coming all game. All the Gamblers could to was
hold on. Final score 17 - 2
Victoria was up 7 - 0 at the end of one period, on great offensive
movement, ball control and utter dominance. The Rocks defense was
solid and held Niagara to 4 shots on net. Victoria fired 17 first
period shots , most good scoring chances at Niagara tender Bob Watson,
who was looking pretty ordinary.
Gamblers coach Terry Sanderson chose to leave Watson in to start the
2nd, but that didn't last long. 4 minutes in , the Rocks had two more
and the hook was out. In came Ryan Kells and he managed to keep the
Rocks off the board for about 8 minutes and then the flood gates (gaits)
opened again. It was 10 to zip before the Gamblers beat O'neill, late
in the 2nd period.
The 3rd was just more of the same. where Victoria out scored the
Gamblers 8 - 1. It was clear that the Gamblers were just playing out
the clock, the final result wasn't really in question from early in the
second, or was it late in the first?
The Shamrocks put out a great team effort tonight, and are well situated
to wrap it up on Sunday night. The big difference tonight was the
"Team" effort put forth by Victoria, led by Gary Gait expecially in the
1st.., and Rod Tapp on the faceoffs..,and for the Gamblers.... Watson
was average, they lost Jason Luke to a turned ankle, and Darris Kilgour
was limping pretty good and didn't play the last half the game when the
result wasn't in doubt. the Gamblers leaders were gone, and so was the
heart!. Where was Rich, Travis and Randy???
But... Game 4 is over, don't count the Gamblers out just yet... they
lost a blow out to Brampton in the OLA finals and came back to win
it...,,,, but i don't know. I have to believe that after two
consectutive good wins the Shamrocks are going to pretty tough to stop
on Sunday.
One last note: even with the result not in question, both teams stuck
to lacrosse. there were chances for some ugly stuff, but they kept to
the game.... Well done!!
Pete's Report
It was all Shamrocks tonight. Victoria was able to score 17 unanswered goals
in this series. It is going to take some motivation speech by Terry
Sanderson to get his guys to the rink Sunday, let alone play well.
Give Niagra Falls credit for not reacting to taunts from the boisterous
crowd tonight. Give the crowd credit for not being too abusive to the
Gambler's. The worst abuse the crowd gave the Gambler's was chanting the
number of goals after each tally by the Shamrocks.
Bob Watson was pulled, then Ryan Kells was pulled. It was going to take
quite the goaltender to save the night for the completely dispirited team on
the Niagra Falls bench. Once the Shamrocks scored their third shorthanded
goal of the game, at 3:55 of the second, the Gambler's started wishing they
were elsewhere. Watson and Kells likely thought their team was elsewhere.
The Victoria team needed the Gambler's to fetch the ball and give it back so
they could shoot some more.
After the Gambler's went down ten, twelve goals their offensive threats
seemed to just fade away. What happened to Darris Kilgour? Jason Luke? Randy
Mearns? The only memorable player for the Gambler's was #4 Rob Chatelain. He
took two consecutive roughing penalties after trying to goad Rob Desormeaux
into fighting with him. It was good to see the lack of class displayed last
night was not to be seen tonight.
I look forward to game five Sunday night, and just hope that the Gambler's
stay in town and come out to play at 8:00.
Pete
