U-19 Provincials
The Varsity (U-19) Provincials take place (rain or shine) this weekend at New Westminster's Mercer Stadium.
Five teams are in the Championship: Tri-City Adanacs, New West/Burnaby Devils, Maple Ridge/Mission Mountaineers, Fraser Valley Orangemen and Victoria Waxmen.
The Waxmen are the only unknown team as most of the players have been involved in the Men's local league on Vancouver Island.
The tournament is a four game (in two days) round robin, with the Gold/Silver and Bronze games both taking place at 3:00pm on Sunday.
Tri- City Adanacs, perennial champions, have been hard hit with injuries and players playing abroad but they must still be rated the favourites to take home their 5th consecutive gold medal.
Victoria with the experience and skill of some of their 19 year-olds will be a team to reckon with.
New West/Burnaby has some star players but may not quite have the depth this year. Look out for them next season.
Maple Ridge and Fraser Valley both have some oustanding individuals but the quality isn't quite the same as the other three clubs.
Look for an interesting and fun-filled Provincials...

SFU Clan lacrosse
Oregon State Beavers were a no show for SFU's first home game on Sunday. Citing injuries and lack of roster the Beavers bowed out on Friday. The game is officially recorded as a 1 - 0 forfeit victory for SFU but the Clansmen were mighty disappointed in the lack of game. There first home date now will be March 15 @ 1:00 pm at Terry Fox Field at Simon Fraser University. Pacific Lutheran Lutes will their opponents.
Next up for theClan is this Saturday and Sunday down in Washington. March 8 sees them with a 5:30 pm start at the University of Washington Huskies and Sunday a Noon encounter with the University of Puget Sound.

SFU CLANSMEN
The Simon Fraser University Clansmen open their home season today at 1:00pm at Terry Fox Field at SFU. Last week the clan won both games to open the season. SFU have many BC Jr. A players on their roster as well as many of the Provincial Champion Adanac U-19 squad. They are coached by National Team goaltender Jeff Gombar and assisted by verteran Rod McLeod.
Last year Jeff Gombar was an assistant coach at Chapman University of the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League. The WCLL is the major college lacrosse league in the California and Arizona area.
Adanacs vs Woodies
Tomorrow night (Monday) at Blue Mountain Park you can catch Senior Men's A Division action with the Adanacs hosting the Richmond Woodies. Game time is 8:00 pm as the Woodies look to avenge a 9 - 8 overtime loss last weekend.
